Proofing
is the protection of buildings or structures against birds, by the
installation of physical ‘barriers’. It is humane and
harmless to birds, provided legal systems are used, they are installed
correctly, and they are regularly checked and maintained.
In order to effectively proof, you need to be able to identify the
birds properly and to understand their habits and behaviour.
Parker Pest control has developed the concept of ‘Bird Pressure’
to help assess the most effective proofing system to use.
Light Pressure: Areas that are
occasionally used by the birds. Medium
Pressure: Areas that are habitually used by the birds during
the day. Heavy Pressure: Areas
used by the birds for nesting or roosting at night.
It is essential to assess any situation carefully in order to be
able to select an appropriate proofing system. There is a wide choice
of systems and equipment available. Each has different applications,
is generally species specific, and has its own strengths.

All Bird Species - any pressure.
Use on any part of a building, large or small.

For pigeons, gulls and to some extent starlings - any pressure.
Use on ledges, parapets, signs, beams, pipes, gutters and roof

For pigeons and gulls - light or medium pressure.

ridges.
- The Daddi Long Legs
For pigeons and gulls - light or medium pressure.
Used for surfaces that require regular access for maintenance,
such as silo tops,
air conditioning units, and ventilation plant; also for awkward
shapes such as streetlights.
- The Coil System
For pigeons - light pressure only.
Used on Window sills, ledges, parapets, signs, beams.
- Wire Mesh Systems
All Bird Species - any pressure.
Used to proof awkward entrances to voids and areas subjects
to vandalism.
- Bristle Strips
All Bird Species - any pressure.
Used around doors and where cables pass through walls.
